Basalt flagging project completed December 2013. The stone is bedded in on a mortar bed on top of 150mm of compacted road base. The stone is variable in thickness and predictably unpredictable to shape. A grinder was used more than the hammer and chisel. The Black oxide grout was inserted with ‘gold’ shards by the owner and adds to the ‘volcanic’ feel of the place.
